I have a mouse like that. An IBM USB mouse running on a PS2 port.
Sometimes I have to do a cold boot, both in windows and linux,
to get it to initialize (not to mention that when I boot to
a text console, gpm cannot initialize it as IMPS2 and if I
try that, it jumps all over (and so I use PS2 instead)
- X needs IMPS2 - after I run X, if I exit to a text console,
I have to use IMPS2 instead of PS2 when I come back to the
text console). Alas, the left button on my Mouse Man Marble Plus
(Logitech) wore out (I never had problems with that) and am
using the IBM mouse now.
So ... have you tried a different mouse?
