    That's a function of the bandwidth available to you via *your* connection.

    Now, no doubt you'll protest that "I've got rogers.com cable! That's about
    384Kbps!" or whatever.

    What you have to remember is that that's the bandwidth available to you if
    you were the *only* one using that network segment. Typically, cable network
    segments are allocated to a substantial number of simultaneous users, *all*
    of whom share the available advertised bandwidth. Cable network segments are
    typically 700-900% oversubscribed, with the idea that not all users will be
    online at any given time.

    There are high-usage times such as after work until the typical bedtime, for
    instance. If all of the users that are subscribed to that segment are
    downloading large binaries at that time such as mp3s or isos, available
    bandwidth will suffer for all of those users.

    You may wish to just cron a wget download for during the night,
    early-morning or mid-weekday hours to take advantage of the most bandwidth
    available to you.
