I installed RedHat Advanced Server V. 2.1 on a notebook where Windows
2000 was already installed. This notebook has no diskette drive so I
could not prepare a boot diskette. I choosed to leave the Master Boot
Record untouched, since I was afraid not to be able to boot Windows
anymore. Instead, the boot info was written to the partition header.
Now I have no way to boot Linux. I remember that under Windows NT, one
could add an entry in a special file and the NT boot manager would
allow to choose this entry at boot time. I don't see how I can do that
using Windows 2000. Of course, it would be better to let Linux manage
the boot process.
So my question is, if I allow RedHat AS2.1 to change the MBR (using
grub), will it still provide the opportunity to boot Windows 2000? Or
will it wipe out the partition information that allows me to boot
Windows?
I agree that it is quite unusual for this Linux version to coexist
with Windows on a notebook. That is why I am asking the question.
(And I need an answer before reinstalling Linux - I think I will have
to).
Thanks a lot
