what happend? MTU value

Hi,
Just upgraded my colo server to RedHat 9, when I returned from London I
found I could only see my server from a dialup,
the server could be seen from some ADSL networks but not others, it turned
out the MTU value for eth0 needed to be set to 1400.
I have a 3c905c card is there any issues with these or did I do something
wrong in setting up? also how do i ensure eth0 comes up with the correct
value.
