Not 100% sure if this is what you're going for or not...
Make sure the "Show only new articles" filter is off in the toolbar
Turn off "Match Read Articles" in the filter menu
When done reading a group either right-click and "Mark Group Read" or just
"Ctrl+Shift+M" from within the group.
If you want to see something previously marked as read just turn on "Match
Read Articles" in the filter menu, and turn it off again when done. Then
old articles should be avaiable to you until deleted off the server.
