Hi folks,
When installing Fedora, I consistently see it fail on the first step
following specifying exactly which packages I want to install. It tells me
its formatting the drives, then that it is copying the install image, but
that fails. The installer guesses that I am out of diskspace, but I doubt
that. I am using the default setting in the automatic partitioning.
Something like the following:
hda0 ntfs 40G
hda1 IBM rescue 1.5G
hda3 /boot 103Mb
hda4/
hda5 / 13G
hda6 swap 1.5G -- I am not positive of the exact size here.
Anyhow, I am not out of diskspace, but I am wondering how to debug. What I
have done so far is browse the filesystems for the /boot and / from
PartitionMagic in Windows. I can do this no problem and even create
directories in them. So, the file system/disk is not totally hosed.
I would like to
a) See a detail error log, but this doesn't seem to be available (it does
not write it any place I know how to read it.
b) I would like to boot into linux from the Install disk, mount the linux
partitions and perform some sort of disk check. Is this possible from the
Fedora Rescue mode or do I need to make a Knoppix CD? What would folks
recommend?
c) I am also interested in hearing any other theories about why the install
image copy would fail.
Thanks,
Andrew
