eggcups accessing internet?

Can someone tell me what has happened here. A day or so ago
I noticed that my system was strobing the dsl modem every 5
seconds. I tracked it down to eggcups. If I kill eggcups
the strobing stops, if I restart it, the strobing resumes.
Why is it doing that? Is this a sign of a virii of some type?

I have been running RH9 for about 3 months with no problems
(that I know of!) and this just started.
