Soundblaster 16 PCI no sound with cds but gives test sounds fine?!

I have recently installed RH 9. Have everything working fine
and am quite happy with it (dual boot to xp pro.).
Only problem I am currently experiencing is playing music
cds (works fine in windows). I hear no output of sound though they do
play and show tracks etc. Volume control has nothing muted. When I run
soundcard detection I hear the test soundfine. Thanks so much for any
help!!
