Hi All!
I have two network problems that I think are related. I am quite lost and
would appreciate any advice!
1)
I am trying to set up samba shares. To do this I downloaded and installed
the rpm for swat and followed the directions here:
http://rtfm.dyndns.info/tips/2000/05/05/31.shtml
a)
Edit file "/etc/services". Add the following line if it isn't already
there.
swat 901/tcp
{Ok - the file was there with that line already in it.]
b)
Edit file "/etc/inetd.conf". Add the following line if it isn't already
there.
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/swat swat
[The file didn't exist - I created it and put that line in it - swat was
installed in that dir.]
c)
Restart "inetd". In Red Hat this can be done by running the following
command as root.
/etc/rc.d/init.d/inet restart
[This didn't work - I don't have this file! Instead I have
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd, which I could restart.
d)
To access S.W.A.T., just browse to the following address.
http://[server]:901/
[I could not get this to work - I tried my hostname, ip and 'localhost' I
always got the following error: "Could not connect to remote server"]
2)
This made me think that I don't have a web server... so I went to "(KDE):
System Settings | Server Settings | Server" to open up the "Service
Configuration" gui. The 'httpd' entry was there but not ticked. I ticked
it and pressed "start". I got the following dialog error:
httpd failed. The error was: Starting httpd: httpd: Could not determine
the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
[FAILED]
Any advice would be most welcome!
