I am as green a newbie as you can imagine. I installed Red Hat 9 on my
desktop computer last week. I used the installation discs that came with
Red Hat Linux 0 for dummies. In the book they explain how to install the
plugin for Macromedia Flash for the Mozilla browser in a step by step
manner. Great! I got it done and its there. I also understood the basic
concept that .so files go in the /usr/lib/Mozilla*/plugins directory. I
love it when a can grasp a basic concept. Next they list the URLs for
other common plugins, like Sun Java, Real Player, etc. So I go the the Sun
Java URL and download the installation file:
"jre-1_4_1_06-linux-i568-rpm.bin". On the web site it describes the file
as a "self extracting file". I cannot find a single faq or How-to file on
how to install the goddamned thing. I can't find an application to extract
the "self-extracting" file and it doesn't seem to want to self extract.
And what's more I just had a viscious fight with my wife because she
interupted me when I was fighting with this *^()%(_X thing...
Can someone help save my marriage by walking me through this.
Thanks
