xmms will play .ogg files for 2 or 3 hours or so on a RedHat 9.0 system
and then stall / quit with error:

Couldn't open audio

Please check that:

1. You have the correct plugin selected
2. No other programs is plocing the soundcard
3. Your soundcard is configured properly

  HOWEVER, on a Mandrake system, [9.2] it
plays continuously, no problem, it's playing now, and has been for
about 30 hours. I've tried this on 2 RedHat systems 9.0, before and
after applying all updates.
The Mandrake system is running the updated kernel:
2.4.22-21mdk
The RedHat system's kernel: 2.4.20-24.9 #1

Questions:
What's the easiest way to fix one of the RedHat machines, so that
they'll play .ogg files continuously with xmms?
Is it the newer kernel that's making the difference?
