Hi There,
I have been using Red Hat 7.2 for a while. I just developed a booting
problem today. I have a linux boot floppy, so I boot the linux system
by inserting the floppy, when the power is turned on. Without the
floppy, Win2K boots up.
Linux tries to boot up, but fails, the following is the tail of the
boot messages:
syslinux 1.52 2001-02-07
.
.
.
.
mounting /proc filesystem
creating root device
mounting root filesystem
hdb2: bad access: block=2, count=2
end-request: I/O error, dev 03:42 (hdb), sector 2
ext3-fs: unable to read superblock
mount: error 22 mounting ext3
pivotroot:pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed:2
kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init= option to kernel
I booted the system in the rescue mode. It says that I don't have a
linux partition. I didn't have any backup of my files (this teaches me
to back up). Is my hard disk toast, or is my file system corrupted?
Anybody have suggestions?
Thanks for your help in advance
