I'll try to help.
First, you need to verify the ISO file after downloading.
Verify the MD5 checksum against the MD5SUM(S) file(s). If
the ISO is bad, there's no sense burning it to a CD. When
downloading with that "other" operating system, make sure to
set the mode to binary, not ASCII.
Second, verify the burned CD. If you have a working Linux
machine, mount the ISO file using loopback, mount the CD,
and do 'diff -r' on them. Another way to verify a CD is to
use 'dd' to read the whole disc and compare that against the
ISO file itself, but I have had mixed luck doing that.
Third, in case it hasn't already been suggested and ruled
out, you might try the hard disk installation method. If
the ISO files are good, and if you have a spare partition to
hold the ISOs while installing, this method works very well.
Use the 'askmethod' option when booting the installer.
Good luck.
