Newbie to Linux so ignore this question if just too stupid.
I installed Redhat 9 about a year ago and have been trying to learn the
Unix/Linux way of doing things ever since. I recently worked out how to use
Yum to upgrade installed packages (Always had a problem with Up2Date not
connecting).
Yum links to specific directories (and mirrors) that provide updates for
various versions of Redhat and now Fedora.
My question is - By updating my Redhat 9 packages... is my operating system
becoming a Fedora OS by stealth?
Is there any fundamental difference between the two that won't ever be made
up through upgrading Kernels and all the other packages like KDE....?
After upgrading all packages, will I ever need to start using fedora
developed packages... How will I ever know just what I have got?
Coming from a $MS background everything is pretty clear-cut. Win98 could be
given different service packs etc., but would never become WinXP
Is this the same with Linux or can you effectively upgrade forever?
Thanks
Andrew
