As a newbie I have been attempting to install GTK and all its dependent
packages. I sucessfully installed Glib and when I went to install Pango
the following error appeared:
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `fontconfig.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'fontconfig' found
checking for xft >= 2.0.0... Package xft was not found in the pkg-config
search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xft.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'xft' found
configure: error: *** Didn't find any of FreeType, X11, or Win32.
*** Must have at least one backend to build Pango.
First I dont understand the PATH and environment variable concept. I
assume it is the designation as to where the programs look for other
files, but Im probably wrong.
I can get the dependncies such as FreeType, but im not really sure where
the go.
I have not had any real luck to date configuring and installing
software, my main objective was to install Gnutella which required GTK,
hence the can of worms Im dealing with now.
Any help or insight regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
Remember...Im new to this..
Mike
