Boot from the CD in rescue mode.
Or, at the boot prompt(if I remember..), press 'e' to edit the selected line.
Then select the line saying kernel , press 'e' again
now add "init=/bin/sh" withouth the "'s at the end of that line
<esc> to end editing 'b' to boot.
Now you'll get a prompt after booting, do:
mount / -o rw,remount

To now set a new root password, run the passwd command.
