Along those lines, I'm very happy with my Canon A70. However, I would
suggest purchasing a card reader and using that. I'm currently using
the SanDisk ImageMate SDDR-75 and it works A-OK. Furthermore, I find
that these compact flash cards are a good way to transfer big chunks
of data between computers, so I've connected card readers to my machine
at home and at work (the readers are really cheap, I've even got
a couple bundled with the purchase of CF cards). You also save camera
battery this way.
Anyway, I find A70/cardreader/Linux to be a great combo, it works very
very well for me...
