hope this is the right place for this, but I'm tearing my hair out.
I've set up quake III to run as a dedicated server on an installation of
redhat 9.0, all seems well and if I run 'netstat -a' I can see a port open
for *:27960 (the default connection port for Q3).
However I can never connect to this machine, even with the firewalls and
iptables disabled.
The web is not much use at the mo' as the question seems to be asked again,
and again with no answer.

Re: Waterproof mains sockets. ... tearing your hair out, shouting at the kids, arguing with the wife as to whose fault it was that it got lost in the first place, slamming the door behind you, sulking in the garage angrily banging bits together pretending that you're actually fixing something, creeping sheepishly back to find that no-one was interested in you anyway and hadn't noticed you missing. ...
