It's probably okay. What does the 'free' command say? I
suspect much of that 310MB difference is buffers/cache,
which helps you by improving speed of file access. My
system, with 1GB of RAM, currently shows only 27MB free with
a simple X session (no Gnome or KDE) and a few tiny programs
running. The 'free' command says without buffers/cache, I
have 906MB free.
