I managed to fix it myself...
FYI for those of you who have the same problem in the future.
Basically... you still need to do all the steps I highlighted in my
original message but you need to create the following sym link under
/etc/sysconfig/nretwork-scritps/ln -s eth0 ifcfg-[Name of your
Connection here]
I did create the sym link but under /dev which didn't...
after putting the link in the right place, I managed to ifup eth0 and
then do a successful dhclient on eth0.
Hope that helps anyone in the future to avoid wasting vast amount of
hours figiring out what the problem is.
