I'm not so sure. Thinking back to things like ExploreZip and other Windows
executables-in-a-zip worms, they spread almost as fast as "automatically"
executing Outlook-hole-exploiters. People duly downloaded, unzipped, and ran
the contents.
So, if they were running Linux, for example, and received a .tar file
containing a malicious shell script, they'd probably just do the same: untar
and execute - and tar would obediently honour the x-bit. The code could then
do all it's nasty work in the now familar way (SSH server on port 5656 or
whatever...).
So is it really that different with *NIX?
