    Problem solved !! :-)

    Thnks for your advice, Google was my friend and found the old version
    of libxml2{version}.i386.rpm. I downloaded all three :-
    libxml2-2.6.6-3.i386.rpm
    libxml2-devel-2.6.6-3.i386.rpm
    libxml2-python-2.6.6-3.i386.rpm
    It turned out that libxml2-devel was not installed which was causing me all
    the problems. It installed like a dream and now add/remove pakage manager
    is working.
