Yup. Sound works everywhere else that I've tried. Audio CD's and general
system sounds, mostly. And a couple of games that I tried just to make
sure. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the base sound system.

Amit's suggestion was actually one of the first things I tried. I'd had the
same problem during a brief foray into Linux back in the RedHat 7.1 days.
It worked back then, but not this time. I'm gonna try the "reinstalling
xmms entirely" route and see what that does.
Right now, I'm thinking something got pooched. I just don't know the
environment well enough to know what or how.
