Hi
I'm running RH9 on a gigabyte 8knxp/pIV 3g box. Some of the motherboard functions don't work properly and I think that upgrading the kernel will fix some of that. I am thinking about upgrading the kernel (through apt or, if I have to, compiling it) but leaving the rest of the installation alone. What I want to know is how independent the packages are from the kernel. Is upgrading the kernel without upgrading other packages (eg cf installing FC2) likely to break stuff?
tia
