Hi,

I am under the impression that Linux as an OS is far more stable than
Windows. But I keep on having the same problem which occurs from time to
time. My file system gets corrupted in some manner, usually associated
with a freeze up of my system. And when I try to fix the problem with
fsck, things get wierd.

So when I try to reboot, I am warned that I should fsck my partitions
manually. But when I do this (with the partition unmounted), and start
answering Yes to all those questions about fixing things, at some point my
screen goes crazy spitting out lines in rapid succession, and the only
thing I can do is cold boot the machine.

Can anyone explain to me what is happening here? How do I avoid this? How
can I fix my partition? Why can't e2fsck work correctly?

I am using Redhat 8 (and cannot upgrade due to an incompatibity problem
with a software I am using). My partions are both ext2 and ext3.

Thanks for any tips and help!

Steve, Denmark
