Solution 1: install a 3 Rs used ethernet card. It's got to be
easier than hacking the code. The card doesn't even have to work.
It need only load the driver.

I can't help it if microsoft wants to lie and say that you have an
experimental card from Xerox (00:00:00 is assigned to them). But
then, they also lie and tell you that ALL interfaces (including the
loopback and serial ports) have a MAC address of 000000000000
which is so obviously false.

Create a dummy card module? Like I say, choice one is above.
