Software RAID Notification Questions

I recently install RHEL 3.0 using software RAID between two 36 GB SCSI
drives.

Presently I have mirrored /boot, /, /var and swap. If everything goes
as planned during the intial configuration I will setup software RAID 5
for SATA drives as the /home partition down the road, right now I am
just testing. I also have to see if I can get it to work on my HP
ML110. At present I have a couple of questions for people who have more
software RAID experience, coming from the Windows world I tended to use
hardware RAID 95% of the time:

1). Did I make a mistake in mirroring the swap partition? Should I
blow them up and build two identical size swap partitions on each SCSI
drive. Basically I want a swap partition on each drive so that if I
loose one I can continue to have swap space, but I am unsure if I need
to mirror it. I am not confident my present config is the
recommended/proven way of doing it.

2). I have located the app mdadm and I was thinking about using it to
monitor the drive status and e-mail me when the state changes, after all
when a RAID drive fails I want to be able to replace it ASAP. Is their
anybody who has done automated notification for RAID failures. I would
appreciate any ideas or suggestions you have on how to have problems
reported.

Thanks,
     Eric
