I've been using CUPS successfully with Fedora Core 1 and 2. Recently I
even had it working so as to share the printer over the network. But
now my browser and pdf reader and lpr can't print anything. I get a
message "lpr: error - scheduler not responding!". I can print a
plaintext or PostScript file by something like: cat myfile > /dev/lp0.
I've used system-config-printer to remove and reinstall the printer, and
I've used system-config-services to start and stop the cups daemon
(cupsd). I am unable to stop the cups-lpd service (xinetd (pid 2243) is
running...).
My current system is Fedora Core 2, recently reinstalled and updated
using yum. The printer is an HP LaserJet 1200.
Maybe a bad cups rpm was released on Oct 5. Can anybody confirm this?
Part of `rpm -qi cups` is:
