FC1 vs FC3: slow DNS lookup???

We moved from Fedora Core 1 to Fedora Core 3 last week.
We did not update. We ran the install on the old disk
formatting all partitions.

The O/S seems fine (doesn't crash) but the DNS lookup
times which were instantaneous now take up to the
better part of a minute. Web browsing is painful.

The current FC3 resolv.conf is
; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script
nameserver 206.47.244.57
nameserver 206.47.244.108

The old FC1 resolv.conf was
; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script
nameserver 206.47.244.57
nameserver 206.47.244.108
search localdomain

If I hand edit /etc/resolv.conf and add the "search localdomain"
line the /sbin/dhclient-script removes it the next time we boot.
I suspect not searching the local domain has nothing to do with
the problem.

Any suggestions???
