Problem with CF3 upgrade

I'm slightly more advanced than a newbie, but I think I've done something
stupid....

Updated from FC2 to FC3 - no problem. Got two 'task' bars - one at the top
of the screen and one at the bottom.

Re-booted and the one at the top had gone - now if I minimize a window, it's
not visible in the bottom taskbar as is normal???

What have I done? everything else works fine
