Been using FC2 for about 2-3 months and haven't had many problems at all
until I decided to install a Cisco 350 PCM wireless card onto my laptop.
I've spent almost 5 days (8-10 hours a day) and have tried several tips
online. Purpose: run Wireless tools for auditing, then use ssh2.
Card shows up (Network config), but will not pull an IP. Here's what I
tried.
- found out that I needed 5.30.17 firmware (Cisco site & elsewhere), so I
changed it back from the latest to that.
- couldn't use "iwconfig or iwlist", so I checked through Yum and saw that
Wireless-tools was installed. Needed to run as root
- got "no wireless extensions" under iwconfig
Heard from some to use the drivers from Cisco site, while others and audit
tools say not to use them but airo_cs. FC2 shows airo_cs under lsmod. Some
of the articles are pretty old, so I'm not sure if they're still applicable
since they include older linux kernels.
I'm pretty tenacious, and have dumped WXP almost completely (wireless). The
card is good because it works well under XP before and after firmware
change. I would appreciate any direct help here. My eyes are hurting from
searching, trying, searching, trying...etc. :) But linux is it for me.
Thanks guys!
