FC3 End_Request: I/O Error

Initially, this is the first time I post regarding any FC-related issue so
please feel free to trim if you believe that this post is inappropriate
for this group. Now on to business...
I am getting the following error during an FC3
installation. This error causes the system to hang and occurs while the
partitions are being created. TTY4 shows the following dump:
End_Request: I/O Error, dev sdb sector *******
Buffer I/O Error on Device dm_0, logical block ****
I am installing FC3 on sdb which is configured as SATA [SATA-sil module
loaded successfully and both HDs are identified] and fyi, I was getting
the exact same error pointing to the exact same sector, even when I tried
to install an alternative distro.
Any help is appreciated.
