PHP CLI Instalation

I want to know if any one can step me through the process of installing
a second PHP configuration ontop of the standard CGI interface. I do
not want to risk touching my current configuration as I have custom
php.ini and apache .conf files. I simply want to install a new version
of php someplace else that can run independently of either wich I will
be using for cron and other jobs.
