mplayer error on rh9

I used apt to get my mplayer. It complained about my RH9 not being
right and suggested a command "apt-get -f install". I followed that and
it took about an hour but worked. I then was able to download and
install mplayer and get it to load. How about that!

However, when I try to play an MPEG, I get:

"Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device"

What's the fix?
