You don't really need to scan. The "udev" subsystem will attempt to make
the device accessible with the same name, regardless of where the plug
gets placed. Just log in as root, type this command:

# tail -f /var/log/messages

and then plug in the PPC: you should see message(s) showing the proper
name.

Since you're running FC3, the best thing to do is to run the tool:

# system-config-securitylevel

and manipulate the IPTABLES port holes from there.
