Setting Java Home Variables

    I have a problem Setting my Java Home variable anytime i want to start my
    Sun App Server i am always getting this error

    [jubril@localhost bin]$ ./startserv
    The JAVA_HOME environment variable is not defined
    This environment variable is needed to run this program

    ****************************************************************************
    but i checked my $JAVA_HOME by using echo and it gives

    [jubril@localhost bin]$ echo $JAVA_HOME
    /home/jubril/jdk/bin

    what can the problem be
