The rpms are worth installing/upgrading (most likely) in any case. I'm
doubtful you don't have the previous versions installed. These are
almost always included with an install -- in fact, I'm not sure how you
would avoid them.

Trying to extract/install particular files from an rpm, while
technically possible, is not worth the _everlasting_ hassle of
installed files not in the rpm db. These being almost "base" rpms,
just install/upgrade the whole thing is your best bet, as they likely
have other files you will need some time down the road.

Using yum to update/maintain an installation makes life easier most of
the time and the headers provide the dependency/provides info that
helps with other rpm installs as well.

If you're one of those "gotta do it my way" types I would suggest
another distro unless you also like headaches. Lot's of hedaches ;)
