FYI:
Those who tried to follow the description by Kevin Hobbs
http://crab-lab.zool.ohiou.edu/kevin/kernel-compilation-tutorial-en/ for
building customized kernel-rpms out of Fedora kernel-*.src.rpms might
have already found out that this howto doesn't work with kernels
2.6.11-1.14_FC3 and 2.6.11-1.27_FC3 (see also Message-ID
<d5rb0h$p1r$01$1@news.t-online.com>). Here is the solution: if you are
building a kernel for x86, edit the generated .config during the step
No.7 and add
# i386
as the very first line. Then copy it to
$RPMBUILD_DIRECTORY/SOURCES/kernel-2.6.11-ARCH.config and go on with the
steps 8 and 9 like before.
It is not me who has found this solution. I have only tried out this
method on a FC3 installation and it has worked for me flawlessly.
Nevertheless, I hope that posting it here would be useful for people who
are facing the same problem.
Regards,
Ilja
