little problem with grub

I just downloaded and install FC4. Everything work very well so far. THe
only problem I have is when I boot. I have the choice of linux and Xp.
I have only 3 seconds to chose wich one I want, how to make it a little
longer?
Also, XP wont boot, the line is not correct. The line is hd0,4 but the
correct line should be hd0,1
I change it, but it wont save. I need to change it every time. How to change
it for once?
