How to set xterm display properties

I have another X related question concerning RH FC 3. On my previous
systems I had placed default values for resources for xterm and other
such X programs in my .Xdefaults file in my home directory. I copied
that file over to my new FC3 box and when I bring up an xterm it is not
using the values inside this file. So my question is, under FC3, where
can I override the system defaults for X applications. I would like to
override certain values for just myself and not system wide (which I
could do under /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/XTerm).
