Red Hat stopped offering their stable product for free several years
ago.

The free offering from Red Hat is now the "Fedora Core" releases, which
tend to be bleeding edge and have a short life cycle that forces you to
update every year or so (2 years at most) if you want to be running a
currently supported product.

If you need more stability than Fedora Core provides, there are several
distributions (White Box Linux, CentOS, ...) that are built from the Red
Hat Enterprise Linux GPL sources with the copyrighted Red Hat graphics
replaced.
