Dear all,
It took a while, but my search efforts have paid off. First of all, I
determined that I have this problem in Gnome. When I start KDE, the
external keyboard works fine. So, back in Gnome, with the Numlock on,
the arrow keys produce a PrintScreen action. I went to Keyboard
mappings (gnome-keybinding-properties) and in the "Desktop" section you
see that the PrintScreen key is bound to taking a screenshot. The
combination <Alt> PrintScreen is bound to taking a screenshot of a
window. I changed this to use the Windows keys (left and right keys
respectively) of my external keyboard and now the problem is solved.
Should you be reading this and this still does not solve your problem,
have a look at http://www.jwz.org/xkeycaps/ The xkeycaps application
may help you.
Regards, /|/|arc.
