    Here's my ultra-mini-howto for making kernel rpm packages:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    up2date --get-source kernel

    rpm -ivh kernel-*.src.rpm
    rpmbuild -bp --target i686 /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/kernel-2.6.spec
    cd /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6*/linux-*
    cp /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build/.config
    make oldconfig
    make ARCH=athlon
    make rpm

    mkinitrd -v /boot/initrd-2.6.9-prep.img
