64 Bit check

How can one check to see if you are running a 64-bit kernel on FC4 to
see whether to install the 64-bit version or Oracle or the 32-bit
version Oracle.
Is it possible that a 64 bit kernel can run on anything other than an
Opteron or Itanium in the x86 line?
