Have you tried to disable the extra repository ? (The extra repository
is needed only for installations, not for updates.)

Extra background info
Sometimes I get a similair message. Mostly when I compile a gimp cvs
version. It is caused by a combination of running to much (like many
apache hits and continiuously compiling) at the same time, with to less
memory and rising cpu temperature. (My harddisk is faster than my
memory) This only happens after fifteen minutess of heavy cpu duty.
So I think the segments are a cooling problem. Since it only happens
when my cpu temp gets above the 56 degrees. (Still 13 degrees to go)
I restart my pc and the segments disappear. Appearently some library
crashes. I don't know wich.
