Dear all,
yesterday I tried to update my FC3 at home with the standard method, 4
Cds of the official release of FC4 and so on...
Everything was ok, or better, I did not see any error during the
upgrade. After the reboot there were some errors (not important now),
but, especially, no sign of the FC4 kernel, and no change of the GRUB.
Many applications were really updated, so the systems seemed to be a FC3
with some rpm of FC4. At the end, most of the operations were
impossible. As I have no time to further investige what happened, I
simply made a fresh installation of FC4 over FC3 and everything is fine.
I have another PC at work running FC3 and used as a local web server.
Surely I won't try any upgrade!
But is it the correct way of the upgrade procedure? Am I missing
something? I think this is a crucial point for any distribution, and in
general for the linux-appeal. I know I am quite 'fanatic' about
upgrades, but this can be a problem on long time when the release is no
longer updated.
Thanks for you help
Gianfranco
