hi,
been only using debian for 4 years and now have to work with a PHP
application on RHEL4 and FC4.
have bought two books but they both rely on using X based tools and the
servers i'm working with are console only.
i'd appreciate any help RE installation and configuration of packages.
on the RHEL4 server up2date is installed and set to point to RH's
repositories and seems to be working.
on the FC4 machines i think i will be using yum.
i tried
# up2date mc
and it installed the midnight commander fine.
here are my questions:
does anyone know of a list of equivalent apt and up2date commands?
how do i see the status of the installed packages? i.e. how do i know if
apache is installed already?
if i install PHP and apache do i need to set up apache to link to PHP - or
does up2date run any configure scripts?
does anyone know of any good books for RH which concentrate on
administration for the console only?
thanks for any help
kev
PS - i can see already that up2date is miles better than the dependency
probs i had which put me off mandrake years ago!
and the customers like this distro cos it has a copr behind it!
