Hi,
I just installed RHEL4 i386_x64 remotely on my system and was trying to get
it properly configured. Given that it is a remote installation, I had
someone else drop in the CD in the machine, and did the rest remotely. I
installed the minimal package, figuring I could install everything else via
YUM.
Next, I wanted to install some of the bigger packages, like X, Gnome,
XEmacs, etc... so I installed yum on the server, and used it to add several
packages already, including X Window System, emacs, etc. Next, I tried to
install the GNOME Desktop Environment, but this is where I'm running into
problems. I'm running into dependency problems:
Error: Missing Dependency: libgdk_imlib.so.1 is needed by package
gtk-engines
After a little searching, I found that the libgdk_imlib.so.1 is provided by
the imlib. A manual yum install imlib finds the library and installs it.
However, trying the yum groupinstall GNOME Desktop Environment still fails
with the same error message.
A quick perusal of the system finds libgdk_imlib.so.1 in /usr/lib64. I've
tried an rpm --rebuilddb to ensure that the db was properly populated, but
that has proven fruitless as well.
I've tried a yum clean all and yum update, but still no luck. Am still
getting the dependency error.
I tried to check what the imlib package provides on the system and I get:
root@phoenix ~]# rpm -q --provides imlib
config(imlib) = 1:1.9.13-23
libImlib.so.11()(64bit)
libgdk_imlib.so.1()(64bit)
libimlib-bmp.so()(64bit)
libimlib-gif.so()(64bit)
libimlib-jpeg.so()(64bit)
libimlib-png.so()(64bit)
libimlib-ppm.so()(64bit)
libimlib-ps.so()(64bit)
libimlib-tiff.so()(64bit)
libimlib-xpm.so()(64bit)
imlib = 1:1.9.13-23
So it is obviously there (in 64bit), and yet I am still getting the
dependency error msg.
If I try to install the 32bit version, it requires installing several other
.i386 dependant
packages as well. So I essentially end up having copies of both the .i386
and the x86_64 libs on my system. Apart from taking twice the space, I
can't help be imagine that there will be conflicts down the road.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do to resolve this issue I'm encountering?
Is this type of problem going to keep popping up in the future on the 64bit
version?
Thanks!
Eric
