My heart nearly stopped when I'd read as far as the "..blue screen"
part. Whew!
You may be having video driver incompatibilities.
Just for fun, try the install again but selecting:
1) Text mode, not GUI; and
2) A minimal install (there will be an option for this later, in the
package selection dialog).
and see if this completes.
Also notice on the boot: prompt screen there is help explaining how
to use the ALT-Fx keys to switch from the installation screen to a
console window, to a view of the error logs and so on. These may
give you some additional information about what is going on when the
hang appears.
