thanks for the replies
duh, sure enough, its all there under system settings/display/generic
lcd/all the resolutions are there
small trick to also set settings after gettting the hardware selection right
there is no higher resolution without the right hardware first, of course it
all
makes sense now
can't believe i missed that first time around
